The story

Onja client 90 Percent of Everything (90POE) was recently faced with a user interface issue that required some complex front and backend coding to solve. Here’s how Tantely, an Onja developer that works with 90POE, was able to help solve the problem.

Tantely’s role

Tantely was tasked with completing the frontend side of the project. He built upon foundational work, and was able to deliver complicated functionality, such as handling special-case Rules where some parts are not editable. He also contributed to bug-bash sessions, where we stress-tested the functionality and helped to fix bugs both in the frontend and backend parts of the system

Why it mattered

We needed to update our Rules Visualisation UI to allow end users to edit certain Rule details, such as owners, assignees and escalations. The current process was for a developer to manually edit YAML files per customer request, which was error-prone and time-consuming.

Due to Tantely’s efforts, we were able to release this functionality to our customers. This enables them to self-serve changes to Rules and frees up developer time to work on more important changes, rather than hand-editing files. This is in line with 90POE’s goal of Scalability, as adding customers will not increase the amount of Rule editing the team needs to perform.

Feedback from the team

Throughout the project Tantely worked hard and produced excellent outcomes. This is not unique to the project though, as this is the same standard of work Tantely always produces. One thing that did strike me, however, was his willingness to step out of the frontend domain and begin contributing work to the backend side of the project. This flexibility makes him an even greater asset.
